| Artist Bio: |
Dewald grew up on a farm in Limpopo and now lives in Johannesburg, SA. He primarily works in oils and charcoal. In 2008 he completed his Bachelor of Divinity in Fine Arts. Thereafter he was given the opportunity to teach fine arts at the Umdali Institute of Creative Arts and continued to teach for 8 years. Dewald is a professional artist, with many accolades. His artistic skills are extremely well developed, and his art is clear and authentic. His vision as an artist is fresh. The way he paints figures and still life, showcases much depth and storytelling. His painting catches one's attention and makes you feel something. He understands how to communicate through his art. It’s evident that as an artist, he constantly pushes his own boundaries. Dewald has exhibited widely in Gauteng and Free State. He has a national and international audience and has sold artworks in the USA. In 2020 he was featured on Pretoria FM radio. |

A while ago I started working at a new company. We quickly decided that every Friday will be braai day! So, we drew up a schedule where each person gets a turn. When I heard what the theme was for AGAC 2024, I knew I had to incorporate it in my painting. I always loved Rembrandt's paintings. I thought that his painting 'The Anatomy lesson of Dr. Nicolas Tulp' would work well with my idea. So, I asked my work colleagues to model for me, and they were happy to assist. As repayment I told them that I will arrange one big braai. |
