I’m Kaila Kastis, a surrealism artist based in the picturesque town of Stellenbosch, Western Cape. As a mom of two beautiful boys, my life is filled with the joys and challenges of motherhood, which deeply influence my work. My art blends the warmth and connection I find in family life with the imaginative and dreamlike elements of surrealism. I strive to explore the boundaries between reality and the subconscious, creating pieces that invite viewers into a world where emotions, nature, and the abstract intertwine. Motherhood has given me a unique perspective, and balancing this role with my passion for art has been an incredible journey of self-discovery. Each piece I create reflects both my personal growth and my creative evolution, capturing the beauty of the ordinary while transforming it into the extraordinary. This painting, inspired by Henri Rousseau’s dreamlike jungle scenes, depicts a rare Green Squirrel Monkey resting on a branch in a tropical rainforest. The vibrant green fur and red tail of the monkey are striking against the lush backdrop, evoking Rousseau’s signature style of exotic, dense foliage.
