Inspiration:
The theme of Neighbourhood Lens urged me to create an artwork depicting my brother and his friend sitting on the curb of our favourite skating spot, the road by our house that leads to our local beach. Skateboarding has brought us together in a neighbourly and communal sense. Almost every evening, you will find a few locals, especially kids, testing and training their skateboarding skills down at Point carpark. It has become the perfect way to form new friendships and strengthen old ones. In my opinion, this combination of being so close to the beach, skateboarding and community building through shared activities perfectly encapsulates the feeling of community and neighbourhood locality that our tight knit town, Jeffrey’s Bay, creates.
