About this piece: 

The almost-touching fingers in Michelangelo's painting fascinates me and I wanted to re-imagine that to portray a positive message in a very discouraged and broken world.  

About the Artist: 

God planned for me to be an artist even before I was formed in my mother’s womb. Early in life, I started to experience the urge to create. With no formal art training, I consider myself lucky because I grew in a natural way. At the age of 38, I attended informal art classes for 6 months to learn the basics in oil painting. Painting was however only a hobby, at that stage.

I was born in Springs, went to school in Springs and Sundra, studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at RAU and worked at various companies and educational institutions till December 2014 after which I started to paint on a full-time basis.  

Another passion of mine is to draw house plans. Without any formal training, I started with my first plan while on maternity leave with my first child.

God blessed me with logic thinking, creativity and the love for Mathematics. He also made me very emotional, expressive and analytical. I believe all of these qualities contribute to the artist I am today.

Being a perfectionist, which is usually not a good quality, I try to produce good art, to glorify God just as Jesus glorified God by making good “tables”.

After entering two art competitions previously, I have eventually realized that, although judging art is subjective, entering an art competition is a way to challenge yourself and to constantly evaluate your work in terms of “freshness”, creativity, technique, the aesthetic aspect and the message to be conveyed while staying true to yourself.
